I was currently at the grocery store with Mags and Berry trying to get not sucky food for the house; Audrey had been gone since yesterday when I'd woken up covered in my own dried blood. That was normal though, especially if he was in angry revenge Audrey mode, which I'd heard from Denny wasn't a very pretty thing.
"Can we make smores for dinner tonight?" Berry asked very seriously, too serious for a topic about smores.
"Ew, no. I want ice cream and cake." Mags let out in her usual elitist but sweet tone.
"I feel like caramel popcorn with milkshakes." They both turned to look at me like I'd said something beautiful.
"Yeah!" They both cheered happily, Mags bouncing a little in excitement.
We were in the check out line, people giving us the usual confused looks (trying to figure out what a bunch of kids who didn't look anything alike and were different ages were doing together without an adult) when I got a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and came face to face with cheerful Frank.
"Heyah." I said brightly.
"Hey you. Who are your friends?" Berry, Mags, and I all exchanged looks.
"Oh, I'm ah, babysitting. This is Berry and this is Mags. Guys, this is a friend of mine, Frank." I introduced awkwardly. I pulled nervously on the bottom of my long white tank top that I was wearing as a dress. It was always weird when outside world people met my...dead friends/family/co-workers. Maggie gave a little girly wave and Berry nodded his head like a gentlemen.
"Nice to meet you guys. Looks like you're getting some good stuff." He pointed at our cart full of the largest amount of junk food you will ever see in one concentrated area.
"Oh, heh, yeah...their parents are out of town for a few days so..." I left it at that.
"Cool cool. Listen, Red, I was thinking maybe you'd like to get dinner with me sometime, or catch a movie or something." I swished my bangs out of my eyes (even though they fell right back in place) and shifted uncomfortably. I liked the guy, really, he was nice and all but Audrey wouldn't like it one bit and he had said to stay close to home for a while. As it was he'd kill me if he knew I was at the store with the kids and none of the muscle guys.
"Well maybe sometime after my babysitting job." I ended up saying.
"Awesome. You want to give me your number or should I give you mine?"
"Let's trade?" I was being very democratic. We exchanged numbers and then goodbyes and after paying we rushed out of the store.
"Who was that?" Maggie said wrinkling her nose like she'd stepped in something gross.
"Just a friend." I said too quickly.
"Seems like he's interested in more." Berry said nonchalantly as he rumaged through the bags for his Skittles.
"That's nice. You all want to rent some movies?" And that ended the Frank conversation.
