chapter 06

It should be noted...somewhere, that taking a cat to a party never did anyone any bit of good. This ran very true for our dear Samantha; perhaps the events that unfolded that night could have been avoided if only she had been aware of this. Of course...then the events that proceeded would have never occurred...

Levii curled himself around Sam's tense hand as she sat politely inside June and Liam's modern apartment. She had declined June's offer to place her purse with the others, and instead it rested next to her in the big plush couch she inhabited. Sam wasn't very good at dealing with large bodies of people, and so, with at least eleven girls all littered around the room chatting and sipping on neon pink drinks, Sam felt as if she were having an out of body experience. She felt as if she were viewing the scene as a spectator as suppose to actually being involved in it; she stroked Levii's tail.

June has never liked having friends of hers feel uncomfortable; she hates when people lose face in front of others and loathes public displays of embarrassment. Therefore, peeking another glance over at Gray, she felt a twinge of something akin to worry nestle in her chest. She liked Gray, a lot, but the girl needed to relax. And what was with her and her purse? She hadn't taken her hand out of it since she arrived. She turned down one of June's famous homemade neon pink monster drinks and then cemented her bum to Liam's relaxation chair, where she had been sitting for an hour now. This just would NOT do. Just as she was about to open her mouth to beckon Gray to her side she heard Liam's voice from the hallway...along with another...

Liam had taken his co-worker, Percilla Palms, out on another date. The buxom blond, who insisted he call her Percy, was so completely his type he could swear she popped out of his fantasies. With long lean legs, shiny blond curls, round golden eyes, and a heave in her chest worthy of all his attention, he had to control the urge to not act on his body's desires. She laughed in her high flirty voice as he made a joke about something rather stupid.

"Are you having a party?" She asked innocently up at him. He controlled the scowl. He hated June's silly little get togethers that lasted until all odd hours of the morning.

"No. My little sister has some friends over."

"That is so cute; can I meet her?" She seemed really excited about the idea and Liam just couldn't say no. So, instead, he smiled down at her and grabbed her hand, leading her into the living room.

Levii sat in rather fowl moods of sorts in Sam's dark, suffocating purse. He tried to calm her everytime her sweaty palm clenched around his tail but this was really getting rather...boring. But, he was a good cat, and he knew Sam needed him now, so he nuzzled her knuckles with his head and tried to think of his catnip waiting for him back home.

Sam was trying to remember why she had agreed to come to this party. Not only was Liam nowhere in sight but the proximity of so many chatty girls was doing a number on her nerves. She was just about to get up and make up some excuse why she had to rush out suddenly when HE entered. Just as suddenly as Sam's heart had lifted to her throat it dropped heavily to her stomach, where it sat, fermenting moodily. There he was, her beautiful blond boy...with a beautiful blond girl next to him. Her heart then fell to her knees when she saw they were holding hands, and she was thankful she had been sitting down. He scanned the room and then smiled a little when his eyes came to rest on June, who was, at the moment, looking at Sam.

"June, come here a moment. I want to introduce you to someone." And then Sam's heart made the long and slow journey to her feet, where is sat throbbing in agony.

June frowned as she made her way over to her brother and the tall blond next to him. She didn't like the blond's snarky smile, or the way she was pushing her breast into her brother's arm. She didn't like her overly bleached hair, or the amount of make up she was wearing. But mostly, she didn't like how Liam smiled down at the blond then.

"Yes?" June said rather coldly; crossing her arms across her frame. Liam tried not to be annoyed by this.

"Percy, this is June, my little rugrat of a sister. June, this is Percy, the woman I'm dating." June narrowed her eyes. But if her brother didn't have the WORST taste in women.

"Oh. Hello." June's voice remained stoic.

"It's nice to meet you June." The blond said in a southern drawl that made June's insides squirm.; her voice was nasally and squeaky.

"Likewise, I'm sure." Liam furrowed his eyes down at his sister. She was acting like a jealous girlfriend and he couldn't figure out why.

"Well, Percy just wanted to meet you. If you need me we'll be in the-" He didn't get to finish his sentence however because a fit of sneezing came over him then.

Samantha couldn't stay any longer. She had to get out of that apartment if it was the last thing she did. She couldn't understand the sudden pain she was feeling. It consumed her. It boiled and twisted and burned her. Her eyes were hot, her throat was dry, her stomach felt as if she had been stabbed multiple times, she felt as if she were dying. And all that she knew was that she had to get away from Liam, and fast.

She rose then, moving quickly through the other girls who only shot her small looks of concern. Did she look as bad as she felt? She was almost at the entry way of the living room, where the Track siblings and the blond stood a few feet from, when Liam started to sneeze. For some reason, it stopped Sam dead in her tracks. She watched as he sneezed again, and then again. June spotted Sam then and smiled at her as if Sam had just saved her from certain death by sharks. June came over to her then and looped arms with her.

"I was wondering when you were going to come over." She whispered conspiratorially up at Sam. Sam only blinked.

"Oh Liam do shut up." June said as her brother hadn't stopped sneezing yet. What WAS his problem? Maybe blondy there was wearing too much tacky perfume. Liam looked up at his sister for just a second to glare at her but stopped dead mid-glare when he saw the electric ebony haired girl next to her. HER. It was HER. That dreadful girl that stared at him as if she wanted to eat him, or kill him in his sleep. He finished the glare and was about to ask June what exactly the creepy girl was doing here when he sneezed again.

"Are you okay?" Percy asked worriedly as she patted Liam's back.

"I'm (sneeze) fine (sneeze). I just (sneeze), I can't (sneeze). Is there a (sneeze) cat in (sneeze) here?" Sam froze. She squeezed Levii's tail a little too hard, jolting the sleeping cat back to consciousness. Levii, who had forgotten where he was, jumped to alert mode and hissed and scratched at Sam's hand and suddenly he was springing out of her purse and hissing at all the unfamiliar people around him.

There was a flurry of things that happened then; Sam yelped in pain and cradled her bleeding hand to her chest, June screamed as she saw a black creature pop out of Gray's purse, Percy paled as she saw the blood on Sam's hand and then fainted, and Liam stood there sneezing in horror. Levii, feeling really very stupid at his actions, walked up to Sam and scratched at her ankles for her attention. Sam then picked up Levii and hugged him close to her.

"What is THAT?" June asked as she pointed at the thing Sam was cradling with all the love a mother would her child.

"This is Levii, my cat."

"What is he doing here?"

"I brought him."

"Yes, but WHY?" June was curious now. The strange girl that she had taken a sudden liking to was really very peculiar.

"Who cares why she brought (sneeze) it! Just get it the hell out of here already! (sneeze)." Liam said pointing an accusing finger at Levii. No one had yet noticed poor Percy lying on the ground.

Sam furrowed her brows at Liam. She didn't like it when people were mean to Levii. He was her only friend and therefore she was VERY over-protective of him.

"Don't yell at him! He didn't do anything wrong! It's not his fault you're allergic to cats!" Sam said in Levii's defense. Levii hissed at Liam; he felt like contributing to Sam's aid of him. Liam looked a little taken aback by the girl's tone of voice but wouldn't let that stop his crusade against the evil looking black creature.

"Don't speak to me like that! This is MY home! I'll yell at the bloody cat if I bloody want to!"

"No you won't! He's my cat! If you want to yell at someone yell at me, but leave Levii out of this y-you jerk!" June watched with mouth agape, as did all of her guests. She had never seen ANYONE yell at Liam, or ever heard anyone call him a jerk for that matter.

"Fine, then you get the hell out too! I don't even know what you're doing here! Nobody wants you here, especially not me! So take your asinine evil creature and (sneeze) get the bloody out!" Sam tried not to cry, really she did. But with the way she was already feeling, added with the fact that Liam had yelled (and hated) her only friend, and the fact that he didn't want her there at all made her feel like a child again. She looked down at the ground as clear streams of water trickled down her cheeks and chin and down her neck onto Levii's fur. She felt so stupid. So utterly stupid. She turned then to June, who was looking so sad and worried it only made Sam's lip quiver as more tears pooled out. Sam nodded her head then and exited the apartment, Levii in her arms, licking away her salty tears.
