chapter 05

Besides that really very exciting day of returning a lost wallet to a stranger Samantha's week droned on at a ridiculously slow pace. On Tuesday she bought a peace lily because she felt Levii was bored without her during the day. On Wednesday she and Levii buried the peace lily in a garbage bag after Levii tore it to pieces; he's really a very jealous cat. On Thursday the pair went to the grocery store (Levii hidden in Samantha's large yellow bag) and stocked up on twizzlers and cat food. And finally, it was Friday and Samantha had her usual work free weekend to look forward to.

It was nearing five in the evening that Friday when Sam (picking on a snag under the counter) caught sight of a red blob entering the coffee house. None other than June Track bounced in looking quite innocent despite her devilish grin. June came up to the counter, her eyes not once leaving Sam's, and puffed out a breath of air.

"Hi Gray!"

"Hi June."

"Can I get a large coffee?"

"Yeup."

"So what are you doing tomorrow night?" June asked, trying to be aloof but failing.

"Nothing much." Samantha replied honestly.

"Well, I'm having friends over for no good reason at all and we're all going to get too sloshed to go anywhere...want to come?" Samantha turned at the sound of the invite and openly gawked at June. Samantha had never received an invitation to anything. Well, she received one to her own mother's funeral but that was her fault for accidentally sending herself one.

"Umuh..uh...really?" She placed June's large coffee on the counter. June smiled in that coy sort of way that only girls who know they're cute can.

"Yes really. Want to?"

"Oh, oh...kay."

"Great! You know where I live so just be there around eight-ish tomorrow. And dress up fancy-like because we always dress up even though we don't go anywhere. Alright?" June was very excited. Samantha nodded as June handed her money for her coffee and then, very like a pixie, June was gone in a wink. Samantha got off a bit early because she could and stopped by her favorite fabric shop on the way home. If she was going to go to a party she was going to need something..."fancy" to wear.

Saturday... Levii had never seen Samantha act so much like a lunatic before. She was standing in her green bra and black panties in the middle of her bedroom with her hands on her hips and her hair up in curlers (it had taken her an hour to figure out how to use them). She seemed to be looking around for something and had torn her room apart searching for it; he watched in morbid fascination.

She ducked herself down and looked under her bed. She jumped up on her stool and searched the top shelf in her closet. She pulled out boxes from the hallway closet and dumped them out on her floor. She opened all of her drawers and tossed things aside. And then, finally, she went over to Levii, who sat happily on his puffy red pillow on the window seat and lifted the entire thing up, Levii and all.

"Ahah!" Samantha said as she grabbed the bright red mini skirt that had been flattened all of this time under Levii. Then she took it over to her desk where her sewing machine sat and began to sew. By the time Sam was taking out her curlers she was inside a dress of her own creation. The top half of the dress was hot pink and wrapped around her chest in a flattering way but minus boobs. It continued to wrap all the way down her body until it stopped abruptly five inches above her knobby knees. The bottom half of the dress was bright red and hot pink horizontal stripes. She had slipped into some red ballet flats and let her now curly hair hang down her back in heavy locks. She looked a bit like she belonged in an 80's movie, but she liked that. She put on her trademark red lipstick and a bit of mascara on her top lashes because she really didn't know much about make up.

"So whatdya think Levii?" She said twirling around in front of her cat. Levii had to admit, she looked better than she did this morning. He meowed in appreciation and the two shared a moment.

Now, don't think for one second that Samantha hadn't been thinking of Liam Track the ENTIRE time. And by ENTIRE time I do mean all this week, all through June's visit, all through sewing up her little outfit, all through curling her hair, and all through the moment with the cat. She had been. She'd never been so excited to see a man in her life. She wanted to impress him so much that he'd ...well, he'd do something! She hadn't gotten past impressing him to be honest. But before she was able to leave her apartment she got a panic attack and ended up face down on her bed with Levii walking on her back for support.

"I can't do this Levii...I'm going to puke or spill something or dance like a fucktard or trip or burp or ohmigod." She was hyperventilating now.

"He'll think I'm stupid and ugly and stupid and what if he doesn't like me? Ohfuck! What if he hates me?!" Levii was sitting on the back of her head now, purring. The vibrations of the purring always seemed to calm Samantha down some. She twirled over to face up and he slid down her face to her side.

"Idea!" She stood up now (stopping when she got a dizzy spell for standing up too fast) and then grabbed her bag. She walked over to Levii and shoved him inside her purse.

"You'll come with me!" Levii hissed and jumped out of the bag.

"Please Levii, please?! I'll do anything, I-I'll double your breakfast servings!" He seemed to be considering it.

"I'll let you sleep on the bed! Oh-oh! You can invite that pretty white cat from next door over while I'm at work!" This did it, he purred and she bent down and let him walk into her bag. If only Samantha had known that Liam was allergic to cats, maybe she wouldn't have brought Levii. But, she didn't know, and now the duo were on their way to a party.
