Samantha was practically skipping down the sidewalk in a style most similar to old fashion musicals...which nobody really appreciated since the sidewalk is only wide enough to accommodate one person at any given moment. So, while Samantha was blindly following her Google Map directions (and her heart), everyone else was having to dodge out of her way like extras in a movie.
It just so happened that the gods (big bang) were smiling down at dear Samantha. Liam Track had, in his hurry to get the hell away from Samantha, left his wallet behind. Sam had discussed the situation thoroughly with Levii (yes, the cat), and had come to the conclusion that she should return the wallet to Liam in person, other than mailing it, or leaving it outside his door and then running off like a stalker. This way maybe she could introduce herself properly and maybe then they could be married. Right there on his doorstep. The plan was perfect. Obviously planning with a hermit cat isn't the best of ideas.
Before Samantha's brain could make it's way through the flowery scenery her heart had placed in front of her eyes she was ringing a little cream colored doorbell. Happily, Samantha noticed that her future husband lived only a few miles from her place. In reality he lived on the other side of town, but to a girl in infatuation it could possibly seem like next door. Also, Sam has a lousy sense of ....distance.
A girl not much older, or younger, than Sam opened the door with a bounce. She had curly red locks that hung down from a messy bun and two orbs of blue that gazed upon Sam appreciatively. Sam didn't realize that the little red head seemed to be checking her out, nor did she care.
"Hi. Um, does Liam Track live here?" The red head's smile deepened right at the exact moment that Samantha remembered Liam saying something about a girlfriend, as in, he had one.
"Yes, he does, and you are?" She was British? Minus the question mark.
"Nobody-his wallet, I left it-HE! HE left it at where I workkkk. At Starbucks. Sorry. Here." Samantha was suddenly feeling vulnerable and self conscious and stupid. The red head kept that ever pleasant smile on her perfectly round face and then snatched the wallet from Samantha. Or, that is what Sam thought she was doing. However, she was very surprised when she realized that her hand was now resting in the little red head's hand. They made eye contact. It was awkward.
"Want to come in?"
"Excuse me?" It was a squeak.
"Inside? Want to come inside? Do you know my brother?"
"No, I, we...brother?"
"Of course, what did you think?" It was a question full of laughter as the girl had obviously seen Sam's relief; Samantha joined in on the laugher, a little too excitedly.
"I'm June. What's your name?" She was inside. The little hand of June seemed to have pulled her inside, where Liam lived.
"Samantha. Or Sam, or Gray."
"Gray? That's a funny little nickname. Why Gray?"
"It's my last name." The end.
The apartment was lavish and three stories tall and expensively decorated and beautiful. Very modern, very clean. Samantha was looking around, not noticing that June seemed to be tugging her towards a living room. A tea set was already set up, steam coming out from a little blue tea cup.
"Well I think I shall call you Gray, it's my favorite non-color. Would you like some tea? I was just about to have some." They both sat down on a very silky and lush love seat. It was also blue.
"I'd love some." Samantha was realizing, finally, that she was having tea with a perfect stranger who thought she knew her brother. Stupid Levii; he had not prepared Sam for this!
"So, do you live around here, Gray?"
"I live in the city, yes."
"What do you do?"
"I work at a Starbucks by my apartment."
"Do you go to school or anything?"
"No. You?" June laughed here as if the notion was ridiculous, or ironic? And it was if you knew June, which Sam did not.
"No."
There was a silence which was uncomfortable for Sam because June seemed to be paying very close attention to her. Somewhere nearby a door opened and then closed loudly.
"June! What did I tell you about leaving the front door unlocked?!" It was him, it was Sam's husband and he was going to freak out when he saw her sitting in his living room having tea with his sister. Another situation Levii had not predicted.
