June was so pleased with herself. She'd managed, after two hours, to convince Liam to bring Percy to dinner on Friday. June, of course, had alterior motives, but her brother was blind to them, luckily enough for her. She'd make pasta, because nobody looked good eating pasta, with wine, because it was easy to get smashed off of, and then talk about awkward subjects. Some of these subjects included Liam's failed relationships, Liam's abundant amount of negative qualities, and Liam's bad taste in music. To top off the night, June had planned Gray dressing up and looking like a little sex kitten.
"Oh, Gray, you would look so fantastic in this."
The thing about Samantha was, she'd never had girlfriends before. Never had someone to gossip with, or share opinions with, or point out good looking men with. Nobody ever made her try on clothes, or told her what colors compimented her coloring. No one EVER told her her hair looked good down or that the color of it was very striking. Needless to say, inside Samantha's not very used heart, a special place was growing with June's name on it. She couldn't quite describe her feelings for June; it was something akin to how she felt when she watched the movie Dumbo.
So when the tiny red head held up a flowered micro dress Sam smiled and told her it was very pretty despite her negative thoughts on it.
"Try it on, come on, come on." June grabbed Sam's wrist and pushed her into her closet with the dress. The dress was sleeveless and was a very thin linen material that didn't allow much movement; it should have stopped just above her mid-thigh, but since it was actually June's dress it was much shorter. She was dying to throw on a cardigan or some leggings but instead came out and stood awkwardly for June.
June walked around Samantha, pacing, looking up and down with a serious amount of satisfaction; this was the dress. The raspberry and cream colors set off against Gray's coloring perfectly; she looked like a little china doll with her long choppy black hair and light skin tone.
"You look so beautiful. Do you like it?"
"It's very soft..."
"It's perfect."
He came downstairs to see what June was cooking up, and came to a stop at the doorway. She seemed to have company over; she hadn't told him of anyone else joining them. The girl was a few inches taller than June, and petite. She had long dark locks that curled at the ends and draped down the smooth light skin of her back. She had on a short floral dress and little pink shoes; a sweet sent came to him then and he immediately attributed it to the girl. She had one of June's aprons on, a green one, and was taking directions from her as well. She turned then and it took Liam a moment to realize who it was, and once he did he felt stupid for not knowing her sooner; of course it was Samantha. She looked different to him for some reason.
June noticed him before Samantha did but both the girls looked like they'd been caught gossiping.
"I'm sorry! I'll take him upstairs now; I was worried he was getging cabin fever so I brought him down for some company." As she said this Liam sneezed twice and she pulled her black cat from a blanket on the floor and trudged past him. He sneezed again as he watch her retreat upstairs finding he wasn't even upset.
June smiled wickedly into her boiling pot of water. Liam was distracted and she knew the cause; his head was still faced towards the doorway of the kitchen.
"Gray looks nice doesn't she?" She tried to hide any trace of secret plan from her voice, though it was hard. Liam turned then and rubbed at his eyes.
"Yes. Did she change her hair?"
"Oh, I just put some curls in it is all." He nodded his head, uncomfortable talking about Samantha this way. He sat in one of the barstools with his head in his hands and watched June cook. He always liked watching women bustle around the house. June grabbed spices and pastas, tomatoes and peppers, the smell in the air was becoming thicker by the moment, enticing Liam's stomach.
"Sorry about that again, Liam." He smelled her sweet perfume as she took her place next to June, tightening her apron and pushing hair off her shoulders.
"Not a problem." He smiled a little at her, face still in hands, and she returned in coyly liking the way his eyes held hers for a few seconds longer than necessary. And then the doorbell rang and the excitement on Liam's face made Sam's chest constrict; that look wasn't for her. Liam practically ran to the front door; the two girls could hear the couple greeting each other.
"Hi lover."
"You look beautiful."
"Thank you darlin' I did it for you; I know how much you like my legs." Then there was some giggling and it took everything in Sam to keep from ripping her ears off. They appeared in the doorway, Liam's arm around Percy's waist, both of them with silly smiles. Percy was looking unforgivably pretty in a little black dress with thin straps and matching pointed heels. Her legs looked like something out of a magazine, her skin golden and matching her eyes, and her hair a perfect shade of blond. The two (much shorter) girls sighed out with a bit of envy, for different reasons.
"Hi there, gals." Percy purred out with a little wiggle of her fingers.
"Hi." Sam let out meekly, losing any confidence June had instilled in her earlier. June just waved a little and went back to chopping.
"We'll be in the living room." Liam let out distractedly as he led Percy away with him. Sam didn't feel like being a part of this dinner party anymore. She wished she'd stayed upstairs with Levii and Porco Rosso (which Levii was currently watching). She needed hot chocolate and a massive amount of strawberries; she didn't need another reason to feel out of place in her own skin.
"We need some music; the air in here has been polluted." June chirped out. She pulled a radio from one of the cabinets, plugged it in, and then pushed a big blocky button. She spun around just as the music started and began to bounce around wildly. Sam didn't recognize the song but she found her feet moving and her smile rising anyways, and soon the two girls were bopping around, filling the kitchen with laughter and food, the only things a kitchen should never be without.
